Meet the Team: A Live Q&A on Collaborative Care & Practice Growth
I recently had the opportunity to sit down with our wonderful nurse practitioner, Jennifer Henning, for a live Q&A with our community! We wanted to pull back the curtain on our practice, share how we're growing to better serve you, and answer some thoughtful questions about our team-based approach.
Since we use amazing technology to record these sessions, I'm excited to share the highlights with you here!
Welcome, Jennifer!
For those who haven't met her yet, Jennifer Henning is a certified nurse practitioner with a wealth of experience. She's been a nurse since 2010, working in diverse settings from adult ICU to pediatric emergency care. She earned her nurse practitioner certification in 2017 and has worked in adult primary care and pediatric emergency medicine.
But our paths crossed in a special way – Jennifer completed a specialized mentorship with me at Ohio State University in allergy and immunology. Her passion for connecting the dots in complex immune conditions was evident from day one. We share a deep commitment to personalized, individualized care, especially for those "mystery patients" whose symptoms don't always match their lab results.
Why a Team-Based Approach?
Healthcare accessibility is a major challenge. Getting timely appointments can be tough! That’s why, just six months into launching the Immune Confident Institute, we're already embracing growth and a team-based model.
Complex immune conditions can affect every part of the body – from head to toe. No single human can know everything about everything. By working together, we can provide more comprehensive, responsive care.
How Our Collaborative Care Model Works
Jennifer and I are basically on speed dial with each other! Here’s a peek at our process:
In-Depth Intake: When you schedule with Jennifer, she conducts a incredibly detailed history and assessment. She wants to know everything – your diet, lifestyle, sleep, environment, family history, and your entire health journey from childhood to today. She’s looking for those root imbalances.
Collaborative Case Review: Jennifer then meets with me to discuss your case in detail. We review your history, symptoms, and prior labs (we're mindful not to repeat unnecessary tests!).
Unified Treatment Plan: Together, we develop a comprehensive, personalized testing and treatment plan tailored specifically to your needs and goals.
This collaboration is invaluable, especially when navigating the "gray areas" of medicine where tests might be normal, but symptoms are very real. Having a sounding board helps us ensure we haven't missed anything and allows us to provide the most thoughtful care.
Growing to Serve You Better: In-Person Visits Coming Soon!
We're thrilled to announce that we'll soon have a physical office space in Northwest Columbus, Ohio! While telehealth has been amazing for reaching patients across multiple states, having a dedicated space will allow for more in-person visits when needed. We're busy picking out furniture to make it a welcoming and comfortable environment for you.
Q&A Highlights
During our live session, we covered some great topics from our community:
COVID-19 & Autoimmunity: We discussed the noticeable increase in autoimmune conditions following COVID-19 infections. It seems COVID, like Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) before it, can act as a trigger for immune dysregulation.
Vagus Nerve Stimulation: We touched on emerging devices like Apollo Neuro, Sensate, and Pulsetto that claim to stimulate the vagus nerve to improve focus, sleep, and potentially calm the nervous system. While data on inflammatory markers is still emerging, many patients find them helpful for overall well-being.
Licensing Updates: Jennifer is currently licensed in Ohio and is actively working on licensure in other states, including Florida and Texas. She's also pursuing a compact license to expand her reach even further!
